The Thanksgiving 2005 Poem.
(maybe I need to work on my titles?)
A turkey, tur-duck-in, tofu or ham,
Some corn and some rice and some gravy and yams,
The table is set for this Thanksgiving feast,
For family, and friends, and even the beasts.
(duh, Gwydion sits at my table!)
We might have lost houses, we might have lost jobs,
We might have just saved our cats and our dogs.
We've been reading the papers, and watching Fox News,
But all they can tell us is their own slanted views.
The last days of August and first days of September,
I want to forget, I want to remember.
I want to be sitting outside on my grass,
Surrounded by Fall, the breeze and the past.
It's been quite a few tears, perhaps every day,
It's been quite a long trip, for those gone away.
But who needs a levee, who needs a wall,
Who needs a city without all of y'all?
For now it's the turkey, or whatever you choose,
It's family and friends that help raise our moods.
It's pictures and memories of a city that we know,
It's imagination and hope, and new strength to grow.
Try to move on, try to start over
Try to keep looking for one four-leaf clover.
Please take some time to laugh and to smile,
Please cherish what you have, even if it's a pile. (of moldy crap, that is)
